Since 1998, RiNA GmbH is engaged in the field of biotechnology and has strengthened its position on the market in research, product development and production.

RiNA’s protein biosynthesis group has reached an internationally competitive standard and RiNA aims to be one of the world leading companies in the field of cell-free protein biosynthesis. The range of kits for cell-free protein biosynthesis has been broadly expanded (expression PCR, site-specific protein labelling, in vitro transcription, highly active cell lysates from bacterial origin, high throughput expression and eucaryotic systems with the ability to glycosylate proteins). In addition, RiNA offers a protein- and RNA-synthesis service for natural and stable-isotope-labelled molecules.

In the field of nucleic acids, RiNA GmbH develops customised nucleic acids, e.g. RNA molecules with different functions and activities. The functional RNA group is expanding its expertise in developing aptamers (RNA or DNA) for use as an analytical tool in biosensors and will open new fields for the application of functional nucleic acid molecules.

The demand for RiNA’s first hardware product, Spectroscatter 201 (dynamic light scattering instrument), is steadily growing. An upgraded system (Spectroscatter 401), which is able to perform analysis in hanging droplets, is now available. RiNA recently launched a completely new and unique unit the SpectroImager 501, a system which incorporates for the first time all techniques required for a fast image acquisition and automated analysis of crystallisation experiments (patent pending).

Since 1998 RiNA is organising a national funding project called “RNA-Network” in Germany and is currently involved in several EU funded projects in FP6 (European Framework Programme). RiNA offers its depth experience in project management for the recently launched European FP7 from the level of identifying consortium partners, preparing, integrating and evaluating grant proposals to management of approved projects.
